Burnt Norton II · Line 21 ·there is only the dance
Dance is the sequence’s figure for movement that is also pattern — freedom and form at once. Without the still point there would be no dance; yet the dance is all there is to experience. The figure grows through the quartets: the rustic dancers of East Coker I keeping time with the seasons, and in Little Gidding V the right arrangement of words as a ‘consort’ of instruments and dancers moving together.
