A second image of stillness in time, this time from music: a violin sustaining a note. For as long as the note lasts it is both moving (a vibration, a duration) and still (a single unchanging pitch). The analogy anticipates The Dry Salvages V, where music is heard so deeply that the listener becomes the music while it lasts.
