    People and litter are driven alike by the cold wind through the tunnels — the draught of the Underground, and an image of lives without direction. The picture of souls blown about by wind is Dantean (the lovers in Inferno V are carried endlessly on a storm), though the passengers here have not even the dignity of passion.
