The movement ends by naming three moments that can only be remembered in time: the moment in the rose-garden, the moment in an arbour under beating rain, and the moment in a draughty church at dusk. They are ordinary settings — a garden, a shelter from rain, a church — and they are recalled, not re-lived. Memory, which belongs to time, is the only way back to them; hence the paradox that follows.
